730 New Undergraduate Students Enroll at The University of Findlay
The University of Findlay is welcoming approximately 730 new undergraduate students this fall. Findlay's fall first-time, full-time entering class is 6.5 percent larger than last fall's class and the University's total enrollment is up 8.5 percent - 3,956, compared to 3,645 students last fall.

Lebanon Valley College Recognizes its First-Year Scholarship Recipients
Lebanon Valley College is recognizing its high-achieving first-year students for receiving scholarships from the College. Among the incoming class of 448 students, 63 percent rank in the top 30 percent of their high school class; 12 students were valedictorians; 52 percent of students earned a scholarship worth half-tuition; and five students received the full-tuition Allwein Scholarship. Wilkes University Awards Degrees at Spring 2014 Commencement
Wilkes University awarded 724 doctoral, master's and bachelor's degrees to students graduating after the completion of the spring 2014 semester during the University's 67th annual spring commencement ceremony. The 10 a.m. ceremony for graduate students and 3 p.m. ceremony for undergraduates were held in the Arnaud C. Marts Sports & Conference Center. Graduates marched down South Franklin Street and entered the center to the music of bagpipers leading the procession.

Students Receive Merit Scholarships for Academic Achievement
The University of Findlay announces Merit Scholarship awards, which are based on a student's final, cumulative high school grade point average (GPA) and ACT/SAT scores. Scholarships are awarded beginning with the freshman year and are renewable for up to four years (for a total of five years of scholarship aid). Merit scholarships for transfer students are based on the student's GPA from all previous college-level institutions.

Wilkes University student Lorinette Williams of Swiftwater, Pa., a senior biology major, spent part of the summer studying abroad in Africa as part of a Wilkes global engagement and global research program. While visiting Karagwe, Tanzania, Williams completed a research project working with Dr. Linda Winkler of Wilkes University, analyzing maternal and neonate mortality at Nyakahanga Hospital.

Area students are assisting Wilkes University professor of biology William Terzaghi with his research this summer.

Wilkes University Students Present Scientific Research in Montreal
This summer five Wilkes University students presented their scientific research at the American and Canadian Societies of Plant Biologists meeting in Montreal, Canada. The students were accompanied by Dr. William Terzaghi, a Wilkes University professor of biology. The society's annual meeting is attended by nearly 2,000 scientists from around the world.
The students presented two posters describing their research work. The participating students were:
James Bird, a biology major from Scranton, Pa.
Nisarg Joshi, a biology major with minors in neuroscience and chemistry from Orefield, Pa.
Thomas Mike, a biology major from Shavertown, Pa.
Michelle Wakeley, a biology major from Endicott, N.Y.
Lorinette Williams, a pre-med biology major from Swiftwater, Pa.
The first poster, presented by Bird and Mike, was on antisense transcripts of light-regulated genes in rice. The second, presented by Joshi, Wakeley, and Williams, dealt with hybrid vigor in rice as it relates to the parent genes. The information was offered in a special session for undergraduates and also in two general sessions for all scientists.
Following the meeting, the students stayed an extra day to visit Montreal.
